Windows are where light, privacy, and style all meet, and the right treatment handles all three at once. Blinds, shades, and shutters are the three big families. Once you know what each is good at, the choice gets a lot easier.

Blinds

Blinds use hard slats you can tilt to aim the light. Faux wood, aluminum, and vinyl all wipe clean and take everyday wear, which makes them a practical pick for kitchens, offices, and busy rooms. They give you fine control over glare without fully closing the window off.

Shades

Shades are soft fabric that rolls or folds up. Roller, cellular, and Roman shades all soften a room and control light in different ways. Cellular shades in particular trap air in their pockets, so they help with drafts and energy bills during Missouri summers and winters.

Shutters

Plantation shutters mount right to the window frame with adjustable louvers. They are the most built-in, furniture-like option, they add resale value, and they last for years. If you want a finished, permanent look, this is usually the one.

Draperies and motorized options

Draperies layer over any of the above for softness, warmth, and a finished frame around the window. And for hard-to-reach windows or homes with kids and pets, cordless and motorized treatments remove the dangling cords and let you set everything with a tap.
